【托福培训-写作】独立写作常见语法错误（代词篇）

1．名词与代词一致

A country can strengthen their economic power through trading IT devices.

High quality handmade products tend to last much longer than its machine-made counterparts.

第一句句子中的主语是a country，因此句中的代词应该为表示“单数”的 its，而不是表示“复数”的 their；

第二句句子中的主语是高质量的手工制品，当后文再次指代的时候，应该为表示“复数”的 their，而不是 its：High quality handmade products tend to last much longer than their machine-made counterparts. 或者改为：A High quality handmade product tends to last much longer than its machine-made counterparts.

2．比较对象的对等

There are circumstances where the ability to work with a team is more important than those to work independently.

此句句子中，the ability to work with a team 和 the ability to work independently 比较，因为ability是单数的，所以the ability to work independently可以简化为that to work independently而不是those to work independently. 在托福写作中，that 和 those 经常被用来指代“比较结构”中先前提到的名词，如：

A sense of fulfillment gained from taking the family out on an enjoyable journey around the country should be stronger than that gained from a fruitful but tiring business trip. 这里的 that 指代的是前半句比较的对象a sense of fulfillment，因此是单数形式。

Faced with a mounting traffic crisis, the government is more pressured to solve the problems of improving public transportation than those of constructing more roads and highways. 这里的 those 指代的是前半句比较的对象problems，因此是复数形式。

3．“男女有别”

One’s success is held firmly in the palm of his/her own hands.

在托福写作中，考生既可以用his/her（his or her）指代one，又可以使用one’s，如：One’s success is held firmly in the palm of one’s own hands. 同样的方法可以用在everyone, everybody, each individual做主语的句子中。

在托福独立写作中，考生需要尽量避免“性别化”色彩单词的使用，如：chairman 最好使用 chairperson 来代替。下表整理了在托福独立写作中常用“性别化”单词的替代。
