Following the footsteps of Facebook Inc, HTC Corp, and Sony Corp, US e-commerce giant Amazon.com Inc is ready to toss its hat in the virtual-reality sector.


According to virtual reality (VR) news site Upload, a post on the job networking site Glassdoor read Amazon is recruiting for a senior development manager for its virtual reality (VR) program.


According to games.qq.com, a game channel backed by Chinese Internet giant Tencent Holdings Ltd, eight of the top ten technology enterprises that ranked on Forbes' World Largest Tech Companies list have already expanded their wings into the VR industry.


Let's take a look at the eight new comers who cracked the top ten list. Some of them have yet to be confirmed.  


Apple Inc


WSJ in a report indicated in early February, Jeremy Bailenson, director of the Virtual Human Interaction Lab based at Stanford University, made a remark regarding the engineers of Apple visiting the center during a Wall Street Journal conference in California.


According to mashable.com, the lab is the first place that businesses will go before developing a VR headset -- Mark Zuckerburg, CEO of Facebook even went along shortly before the company acquired Oculus.

Samsung Electronics


Samsung Electronics unveiled the Samsung Gear VR, a mobile VR headset in collaboration with Oculus on  November 27 2015.

Microsoft Corporation


Microsoft HoloLens, known under development as Project Baraboo, is a pair of mixed reality head-mounted smartglasses developed and manufactured by Microsoft Corporation.


On February 2016, Alex Kipman, the chief inventor of the HoloLens, announced that Microsoft has delayed the launch of the consumer version.

Google


Google Cardboard is a VR platform developed by Google that allows the use of a head mount for a smartphone. As of January 2016, over 5 million Cardboard viewers had been shipped and over 1,000 compatible applications had been published.


Founded in 2010, Magic Leap works on projects relating to augmented reality and computer vision. It raised more than $540 million from investors including Google.

IBM


According to uploadvr.com, working with IBM's Watson platform, Rectangular Studios, a Spanish independent creator, publisher and distributor of entertainment product focused in VR, is creating a VR experience that will allow users to speak in natural language to avatars in the virtual world and have them reply in kind.


Watson is a question answering computer system capable of answering questions posed in natural language, developed in IBM's DeepQA project.

Intel


According to the Wall Street Journal, semiconductor manufacturing giant Intel is poised to join the immersive technology race with a new AR device using the company's RealSense computer imaging systems.

Hewlett-Packard


In January, HP announced "Virtual Reality Certified" hardware at the International Consumer Electronics Show in partnership with HTC instead of Oculus. There are two models, one with an AMD GPU, and the other with an Nvidia GPU.

Foxconn Technology Group (Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd)


Foxconn Technology Group collaborated with zSpace Inc to develop and launch the world's first all-in-one desktop virtual reality solution for education at ISTE 2015.


zSpace for Education is a streamlined hardware and software solution that allows students to manipulate virtual 3D objects ranging from human hearts to helicopters for a better understanding in concepts such as math, physics, engineering and biology.
