The Spring Festival Gala has become an important part of the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration. Harmony and reunion are the two perennial themes. The program’s TV ratings have ranked first among China’s variety show programs. But it is difficult to cater to all audience’s tastes. Each year the gala hopes to incorporate new ideas. It has become a big challenge for CCTV. In recent years, local TV stations have begun to host their own variety shows, which have met the growing cultural needs of audiences. Another new type of show is the shanzhai (copycat) Spring Festival Gala Show. It is a live, unpolished performance.
“春节联欢晚会”一直被视为农历新年庆祝活动中的一个重要组成部分。和谐、团聚是两大主题。 “春晚”一直位居全国综艺节目收视率之首。然而众口难调。每年观众们都希望“春晚”能有所创新。它已成为央视面临的一个巨大挑战。近年来，地方电视台也纷纷开始推出自己的品牌综艺节目，也满足了观众日益增长的文化需求。另一种新型节目是 “山寨春晚”的出现。“山寨春晚”是生动、本色的表演。
