“能加个微信吗？”

这句话听着是不是很耳熟？ 

It can seem like every time we meet new friends or colleagues nowadays, the first thing that springs to mind is adding each other on the app. 

如今，结交新朋友、认识新同事的第一件事就是在社交软件上添加好友。

For some, doing so even represents having a "close relationship" with the other person.

甚至对于一些人来说，成为好友就意味着“亲密关系”的形成。

Nevertheless, more than 80 percent of WeChat users report feeling stressed or harassed when they receive an avalanche of messages, according to a study done recently by the app's developer Tencent. 

然而，腾讯最近的一项研究表明，超过80％的微信用户被大量消息轰炸时会感到压力或骚扰。

In other words, WeChat can overwhelm us, while also breaking down the boundaries between our work and private lives.

换句话说，微信可以让我们不知所措，同时它也打破了工作时间和私人生活的界限。

Just think how easy it is now for bosses to hand out assignments, so long as they have your WeChat contact. 

只要有了微信，老板分配任务变得易如反掌。

How about receiving a message about work while you're out on a date?

No matter if you're at the cinema enjoying a romantic movie or having a barbecue in the backyard, you can never cut yourself off from the outside world unless you switch off your phone.

And heaven forbid if you post something in WeChat Moments before replying to your boss first!

Apart from interrupting your leisure time, WeChat can also reduce your productivity at work.

For many office workers, logging in to WeChat on their computers at the start of the day has become routine.

But what if you get sidetracked browsing the Moments feed, when you should be doing something else?

The app steals our time without us even noticing it, making us suffer the collective delusion that we are busy all the time.

And as if that weren't bad enough, there're the "one-time" friends who take up space on our WeChat friends list.

We'd like to bet that you have more than a few WeChat contacts who you never talked to again after adding them.

Plus sometimes, you only sent the initial friend request so you could invite them to a WeChat group or inform them of something for your boss. 

而且很多时候，加好友只是为了把他们加入某个群聊，或者只是为了完成老板交代的任务。 

That probably goes some way to explaining the abundance of one-time friends in your contacts list.

Yet still, as your friend count ticks ever upward, it can make you feel the need to post selfies and share details of your life in your Moments, just so you can stay up to date.

Your WeChat will then become more like a public forum as a result.

As it has grown and evolved, WeChat has ceased to be merely a method of communicating with friends.

New functions such as the ability to make posts in Moments that are only visible for three days show how the platform is being adopted by more and more workplaces. 

微信在职场中的运用也伴随着新功能的诞生，比如朋友圈的三天可见。

It can cause both information overload and the fragmentation of our day-to-day lives. 

微信带来了信息过量和日常生活碎片化。

With WeChat, all our spare time is swallowed up by the constant torrent of messages and our attention keeps getting diverted by Moments and pop-up ads. 

快速更新的信息吞噬了我们的闲暇时光，朋友圈和弹出的广告分散着人们的注意力。

So what can be done to nip this problem in the bud? 

如何解决这个问题需要我们更多的探索。
