1:Describe a success in your life.

Example:

Honestly speaking, I haven’t achieved any significant success yet. Furthermore, different people have various definitions of success. But if I have to choose one, I would like to talk about avery small achievement I hadin music.

I fell in love with music when I was around 11 years old. Since then, I usually dreamt of holding my own concert. But I had no idea of how to make it come true. Later I started learning some instruments and vocal skills. My musical skills improved gradually. Meanwhile, I took part in lots of talent shows to gain performance experience. When I was about 19, I held my first concert with more than 400 audiences. That’s really something exciting for me. Afterwards I had several more concerts and made some progress each time. Later I established a rock band and had lots of shows. We even once performed in an advertisement for Coca Cola.

(“情感升华”)This might be regarded a tiny success for me. Although it’s nothing worth mentioning compared with some professional music men, it made my life much more colorful. For instance, I made some tight friends in my shows. Also, it’s a fantastic way for me to unwind (relax).

2:Describe a situation that you decided to wait for something.

Example:

I am going to talk about my story of applying to be a member of the Students Union. When I was a freshman, I applied for many clubs and organizations in my university. The one I desired to join most was the Students Union. However, the competition was quite fierce. And I wasn’t confident enough. After lots of interviews, I got many offers from clubs like Drama Society, Taekwondo Club, and Guitar Club. But as my time and energy was limited, I could accept at most two offers. So whether to wait for the result from Students Union became a question. I thought about it over and over again. Finally I decided that I would wait for the position I was most interested in, even though I might risk losing the offers I already had. Several weeks later, when I had lost all my hope, a “miracle” happened. I got the offer from the Students Union. And I felt lucky that I decided to wait.

3:Describe something you borrowed that was useful.

Example:

I’d like to talk about an inspirational book I once borrowed from my desk mate. I was burying my nose in books to prepare for the College Entrance Exams at the time. Every day I filled almost my life with study and was under lots of pressure. Probably because I was usually too stressed, my learning wasn’t efficient enough. Seeing me like that, my desk mate, Bamboo, borrowed a book to me in the hope that it would help me to unwind.

It was a book by a renowned Zen Master called Nan Huaijin. In this book, the author talked about various stories in Chinese history and the lessons he learnt from them. This book was quite inspiring for me.For instance, when reading the stories of many recluses, I suddenly understood what Hemingway once said: “The true way to gain much is never to desire to gain too much.” This helped me to focus more on the knowledge itself instead of the test results. Interestingly, I had much less anxiety and became more effective in my exam preparation. In the end, I got a very high score in my College Entrance Exams. I believe that book must have contributed to this.

(“情感升华”)Now looking back on, I still feel grateful to that book and my desk mate. And the things I learnt from that book still help to shape me.
