雅思口语:A trip you often take but dislike.

这道雅思口语题目,不止一个娃跟我讲他想说“上学”。如果真的较真起来,其实也不算是错哈。Trip的定义是a journey to a place and back again, especially a short one for pleasure or a particular purpose,上学好像真的满足条件啊……

Well, this topic reminds me of all those trips I have to take to my uncle’s place.

Um… my uncle is the oldest son of my grandpa, and there’s a tradition in China, every important festival, there would be a family reunion at the oldest son’s house. But the thing is, he lives in a remote village that is 4 hours’ drive from my home. Actually, it is not that far, but the road is bumpy and narrow, so you know. And there’s no train or bus that could take us directly to his village. Every time I went on this bumpy ride, I would get carsick.

And things don’t get better after we get there. The living place is terrible, I mean, I don’t know what’s wrong with his house, but it’s always incredibly hot in the summer and unbearably freezing cold during winter. And he has been talking about buying an air conditioner, but he never actually acts on it. Plus, the bedroom is cramped, we have to squash together like sardines when we sleep, and in the morning, the room would get stuffy, which is horrible.

And the food there is another bummer. He’s a vegetarian, so there’s no meat available on the dinner table. Now I’m just grateful that he’s not a vegan, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to eat eggs or milk in the morning.

To be honest, I just don’t get why we have to visit him on every special occasion, every trip was like a torture for me.

I’d like to talk about the trips I have to take to my grandpa’s sister’s place.

She lost her husband several years ago, and her children are all working in other cities, so we are the only family she’s got. Every festival and special occasion, like the Spring Festival, Mid-Autumn Day or even Mother’s Day, we would pay a visit to her. And my mom would buy her some gifts each time we go there.

However, I’m not a big fan of those trips. Well, don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I don’t wanna go there ‘cause it’s too much trouble or anything, it’s just that she’s a cranky old lady and it’s so hard to have any affection for her/and she always makes it impossible to like her.

For starters, she’s a devout Buddhist, actually I don’t have any problem with that, in fact, I have several close friends who are Buddhists. What I’m trying to say is, I respect anyone with religious believes, but she’s a little out of line. Every time I visit her, she would try to turn me into a Buddhist as well. And she judges everything I do, my haircut, my pierced ears, my outfit or even the way I talk. And she’s unbearably superstitious. We are not allowed to touch anything in her apartment, ‘cause certain arrangement of her objects is crucial for her. I’m sure you must have heard of the word Feng Shui in China, but what she does is nothing like that, it’s just pure superstition. For example, she has an old wooden box, which is believed to be her lucky charm. Once, I accidently knocked it off, she got furious and even beat me.

I’ve never had any pleasant memories in her place, so that’s the trip I’d like to talk about.
